Heart Braid

There are four kinds of Heart Braids

Basic: The simplest is the basic heart. All the hair is incorporated in the form.

Accent: The accented heart uses strands of hair to add pretty accents to the style.

Cascade: The cascade heart leaves half the hair down to soften the look.

Accented Cascade: And finally, the accented cascade heart both leaves half the hair down and adds accents for beauty.

More Base Braids

Here is the second style from our previous canvas.

A canvas is a braid done up to a point. After the base part of the braid is done…you can create dozens of styles from that base canvas.

canvasThis style has several mini two-strand knot braids. Use the accent strands to create as many as you need to make the style the way you wish.

chained 9When you have created as many mini two-strand knot braids as you need…bobby pin the tails of each in place. Secure the style using as many bobby pins as it takes.

Base Braids

Creating a canvas full of potential.

I like to braid up to a certain point and use that braid to create several different hairstyles. This is something I refer to as a canvas.

canvasThis is a nine-strand single braid with accent strands left out and the tail is sectioned out into accent strands. Once it gets to this point anything can be done with the accent strands. Dozens of possibilities are available only limited by your imagination.

A and B how toToday I will show you the rope and loose style. Use the accent strands to make a few mini rope accents. Loop the ropes in a pleasing manner and loop the loose hair around the ropes.

loops and ropesA nice dress for the client and pretty gems or jewels for the style complete the entire look. What will you do with the accent strands?

Back to School Styles

Need ideas for back to school hairstyles?

Bows are a great way to add that special touch to a school hairstyle, especially when you create the bow with hair adding mystique to the creation of the hairstyle.

back to schoolThe photo depicts a five-strand braid. Use the number of strands you are comfortable using. This would look great with three-strands either dutch or french. Like this one below. It uses three-strand dutch. Instead of ending each braid separate it brings the tails together into a large bow.

bowIf these are too complicated, try something simpler and faster. Braid on each side of the head leaving the back hair down. Add the bow component using a barrette.

Creating Hairstyles

Even the most creative people run out of good ideas for new hairstyles. Here is your access to endless styling possibilities.

blog wheelAssembled, this is a wheel that has four layers. Each layer spins. It points out hairstyles for you to make. Let’s break it down.

blog strandsThe outer most layer suggests braid patterns. Line up one of the strand numbers with the next layer. For this example I am going with the most traditional strand number known. The three-strand.

accent varietyNext, I have to choose an accent to go with my three-strand braid. I have chosen a mini two-strand braid. I use the nickname “chain” because it looks like a chain when it is done.

Forms chartFinally, I need to pick out a form to create with my three-strand braid. Again, I am going with the most commonly used braid form…the single.

The fourth wheel on the Braider Creator is basic/cascade. I am going with basic today to get all the hair up. Tomorrow I will do the same hairstyle only leaving down half the hair making it a cascade hairstyle.

puzzle peicesPut all three components together and I get the final results. A three-strand single braid with mini chain accents. Thanks for walking through this with me.

Short Hair

Here is a great style for short hair.

Braid two braids. Many people call it a school girl braid. Others call it a double. Sometimes it is referred to as pigtail braids. When you are braiding, leave out accent strands in the back.

1howto tutUse the two-strand knot technique to braid the accents. Create mini two-strand knots in each accent strand that was left out. Use a bobby pin to connect the opposite sides together in the middle. I use a flower to hide the connections.
