Cornrows

You know what cornrows look like.

Cornrows are created with three-strands, but only because people generally create them using three-strands. Cornrows can and are created using other strand numbers. It is fun to see and a hoot to try.

SURROUNDED BRAIDS

A fun technique for a hairstyle is to surround a braid with two other braids. The size doesn’t matter unless you are going for a particular look. There are many examples online using three braids of the same size and many using tiny braids to surround a larger braid.

CORNROWS

What braid is used to make cornrows?

The most common is the three-strand braid. However, any number of strands may be used. Rope braids are used to make cornrows. Have you ever used five-strands to make a cornrow?  It is possible to do a cornrow with nine-strands. You would need to be committed and really want to do it because the nine-strand is time consuming on it own without using it as a cornrow.
